Presented by Dr Patrick D Allen, BS, MS, PhD
Cloud computing is becoming popular. More and more project managers will be interacting with cloud computing, either developing clouds, using clouds, or selecting among cloud and non-cloud alternatives to accomplish their projects. This talk provides a brief and very basic introduction to cloud computing, what project managers need to know about cloud computing, and what they need to ask about cloud computing from service providers. Selected questions specific to PMs associated with government projects and the security risks of cloud computing will be addressed. This non-technical presentation will help PMI members understand cloud basics and how to ask better questions when a cloud becomes part of your project. About the Speaker: Dr. Patrick D. Allen, PMP, is currently a systems engineer at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab, Applied Information Sciences Division. He has been programming since 1973, has been a project manager since 1985, and has been helping customers apply new technologies over the last 25 years. Dr. Allen has a B.S. in Physics, and M.S. and PhD in Operations Research, and a Masters in Strategic Studies. He is a retired Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves, and is an international consultant to the United Kingdom, Canada, and Sweden.
