Annapolis Dinner Meeting: Project Sustainability

PMI Baltimore Chapter – Annapolis Site Dinner Meeting

25th March 2020

Project Sustainability

Abstract:

It is a truism that Project Sustainability remains a major challenge nowadays not only to developing countries but to developed countries as well due to technological transformation, political changes, corruption, nepotism, deregulation, financial instability characterized by insolvency and liquidity problems, and other social, cultural, environmental and economic factors. A great variety of projects continued to be implemented at a huge cost often above budget and time and this often affect their sustainability. World famous sustainable business projects such as Ford Motors, Mercedes Benz, Sony Corporation, Toyota, Microsoft, Wal-Mart, Home Depot and Costco etc. have been able to sustain themselves in the competitive marketplace because they all have sustainability plans in place. These have enabled their product lines to be scalable, manageable, extensible and expandable and their products and services adapted to customers and the changing environment.
This presentation focuses on how effective and efficient feasibility studies, conceptualization, design, monitoring and evaluation of projects can help to enhance their sustainability in the marketplace. It also evaluates the contribution of other concepts such as Capacity Building, Knowledge Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, Project Planning and Management, human resources management and their impact project implementation and its sustainability. This presentation also elaborates on basic quality improvement tools such as SWOT Analysis, SMART technique, process flow analysis, cost-benefit and cost-effectiveness analysis, quality organizational structures, systems analysis, feasibility studies, change management, issue management, risk management process and organizational behavior and team building which help to analyze and evaluate various quality management processes. The modus operandi of this paper is to analyze and evaluate the effects and impact of various project implementation models on the sustainability of projects.
