Building Agile Centers of Excellence

ABSTRACT:

We have just completed another holiday season, and in all likelihood, committed to a set of brand new New Year's resolutions. In this meeting, let's spend an hour together working to add one more item to that list: "Improving One Component of Organizational Project Agility."

In this discussion, we will build upon disparate agile methods and see how a unified approach, through "Agile Centers of Excellence," demonstrates value. This topic will focus on the 3 E's; education, empowerment, and experimentation.

We'll step through the benefits of such centers, the challenges in their setup, how a support structure is built, and what can be done to continue a center's growth.

PRESENTERS:

Tyson Rydl is an accidental project manager whose passion for organized success fuels his 20 year IT career. He has had the pleasure of leading technical teams in the educational, financial, and healthcare verticals. When datacenter modernization projects became mundane, Tyson elected to broaden his skill set through construction management and delivering Agile instruction.

Today, Tyson works for the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab. His degrees include a MS in Information Technology Project Management and a BS in Computer Information Systems. Tyson’s certifications include being a Project Management Professional, Prince2 Practitioner, Advanced Certified Scrum Master, and SAFe Agilist.

When he is not in front of his laptop, he is an active participant in his local Toastmaster’s chapter.
