Abstract:

As organizations transition from project-centric operating models to product-centric operating models, it is more critical than ever before that the business is aligned with development on what to build and what will provide the fastest value to the customer.

Traditionally, projects have been managed using a large “Waterfall Book of Work” that outlines the entire scope of the projects upfront (the entire elephant) and are planned to be built over several years. An “Agile Portfolio Kanban” enables the business to break down the work, limiting the scope upfront to allow for the incremental release of value to their customer and clearer alignment between the business and development teams.

Typical process steps consist of:

  • Funnel - Captures general demand from the business
  • Selection - Demand is reviewed for business impact and shortlisted
  • Prioritization - shortlisted items are prioritized using WSJF
  • Estimation - prioritized items are estimated
  • Minimum marketable products (MMPs) are identified, and a Lean Business Case created
  • Approved/Selected features are moved into the program backlog

Join Christina Maines as she shares how to transition your organization from a Waterfall Book of Work to an Agile Portfolio Kanban. She will provide an overview of the steps to take along with sharing case studies on successful transitions.
