President's Message 2019

maria kilianThank you for the great honor of serving as President of the Baltimore Chapter of Project Management Institute.  While I am aware that there will be a transition period associated with the changes in the Board of Directors, I am intentional and excited about being productive during my tenure.  As with any transition period, change is to be expected and I view this as an opportunity to serve chapter members and create synergy among our active volunteers. I have already started recruiting additional volunteers to help us reach the following goals as we aspire to compete for one of the PMI Global Awards.

2019 PMI Baltimore Goals

  • Offer Professional Development Events twice a year (April and October)
  • Include more member-requested activities/events (i.e. networking, training, recruiting)
  • Elicit feedback from members on interests and respond to communication within 24 hours
  • Work to establish connections with Colleges/Universities and grow the PM community
  • Promote collaboration with PMI chapters and other professional organizations
  • Establish our Military Outreach efforts and continue to grow the Community we serve

As you know, I was elected to the position of President Elect in November 2018 which filled a 2-year vacancy.  In December 2018, the President’s term ended which in turn ended the President Elect’s term.  As a result, I am the 2019-2021 President and the President Elect position is vacant.  We are working to fill this position as quickly as possible.

Rest assured, I accept the position as President of the PMI Baltimore Chapter as a great responsibility to serve our members, build our chapter and further the combined science and art of Project Management.  I am proud to lead such a strong Board of Directors who bring a wealth of project management knowledge, skills and leadership to our chapter.  I encourage you to visit our chapter’s new website for additional information about the Board Members.  Our club was established in 1995 and currently has over 3500 members.  I recognize and appreciate YOU, the members who made the Baltimore Chapter great this past year.  In the coming year, I commit to listen to your input as we create a robust chapter calendar, shape communication through our new website, and develop corporate relationships, all to enhance the project management community.  In addition, as we work to make our Chapter award-winning, I have a favor to ask – updating everyone’s information is key to improving our communication and meeting your needs.  This update can be done by responding to the membership survey, reviewing and updated your PMI profile information.  Please send an email to the VP of Membership, John Lewis at This email address is being protected from spambots.
