Topic: Remote Workforce in a Modern Economy: Present and Future
Abstract: With the advent of technological innovations, the business world is beginning to embrace the concept of telecommuting and remote workforce. Telecommuting offers numerous benefits to both employees and corporations which is expected to be more fully recognized in years to come. Within this phenomenon, companies are encountering both opportunities and challenges. Project managers can continue to deliver successful projects even with telecommuting becoming more prevalent than it has been in the past. If project managers continue to leverage the proven processes and procedures defined by prior evidence, they can embrace the movement toward telecommuting to provide successful completion of projects in a more efficient manner creating increased value for the stakeholders. Based on available studies, it has been proven on a large scale that telecommuting benefits both employees and companies, but what is less documented is the impact on national economies. With the limited data available, national economies will also benefit from embracing the telecommuting movement in large scale. With the additional productivity and cost savings, national economies that embrace telecommuting are expected to see an increase in their GDP.
