This event/activity qualifies for 1.00 PDU Leadership.

Presented by Dr. Gina Guillaume-Joseph

After knowing how to plan, one of the keys to success in Project Management is knowing and predicting the future. While waiting for PMI to make Crystal Ball glasses available, experienced project managers rely on assessing certain attributes of projects to gain needed insight and foresight. Some see the first schedule slip as one of these signs.  However, this is a lagging indicator.  Something has already failed before the schedule slipped.  Dr. Guillaume-Joseph in her Systems Engineering doctoral research has discerned leading indicators of project failure in systems projects and will share these with us at our meeting.

We recognize that there are elements of Systems Engineering principles embedded in Project Management.  The ability to predict the future will improve planning, re-planning, decision making and strategic thinking related to programs and portfolios. As Project Management has leveraged Systems Engineering principles across a range of industry areas we can leverage the principles Dr. Guillaume-Joseph shares in our projects.

During this presentation, we will offer a brief exploration of acceptable and effective ways to embrace the challenge of having difficult conversations. You’ll get a chance to practice as we break into groups to really challenge each other in various behavioral situations. Practice confronting without confrontation and disagreeing without being disagreeable.

Conflict avoidance can lead to a decline in overall team performance, therefore it is critically important to be able to effectively address issues as they arise.

Join Lisa and Dave for a brief exploration of acceptable and effective ways to embrace the challenge of having difficult conversations.
