Triple Constraint Strategic Realignment 

PMI recognizes that the Triple Constrain Model is limited. In practice, we believe that the way it is often used contributes directly to poor performance and low project quality.  While project managers measure our success as an industry against the Triple Constraint model, Gartner says that a mere 30% of projects that companies start ultimately achieve their aim.  If the model is limited or even busted, is it any surprise that industry success is so low?  How do we fix this?

There is a solution.  By realigning the Triple Constraint Model’s use within a project, the role of the sponsor, and the job of the Project Manager to think both tactically and strategically, the Model can be used to achieve previously unattainable success.  It’s not easy, but it can be done, and I’ll show you how we do this at Think.


Tony Gruebl

Tony is the Founder and President of Think Systems, Inc. (Think), an operational support consulting company, started in 2004.  Think provides strategic and tactical project management services, business analysis, PMO and executive coaching, and merger and acquisition integration support across many industries. Tony’s experience includes hundreds of technology implementations for domestic, international, and multinational firms. He is an author of Bare Knuckled Project Management (BKPM); How to Succeed at Every Project (Gameplan Press, May 17, 2013), which explains how the corporate PMO can be transformed into a Special Forces like team of project management operators.

Prior to Think, Tony was the Chief Operating Officer of a Washington, DC, non-profit firm.  Previously, he served as vice president of PARIS Technologies, an OLAP financial software provider, where he led many implementations involving business intelligence, project management and parallel business process reengineering. Tony entered the Business Intelligence consulting business while working for Bethesda Maryland-based GMSI where he won the company's Top Gun Award for successful client implementations. 

Tony is a Six Sigma Master Belt and has an MBA in Financial Management and Technology Entrepreneurship from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, NY, 1992).  He has studied abroad at the Copenhagen Business School, and earned a BA from Towson University (Baltimore, MD).
