Earned Value Management, Peering Behind the Curtain

Synopsis:

Earned Value Management, Peering Behind the Curtain

Over the last 50 years, earned value management (EVM) and its alphabet soup of equations, provided a common view of your project's past and potential future.  Perhaps, as a freshly minted PMP, you dutifully memorized every EVM equation.  Or as a seasoned PM, you took advantage of automatic calculations performed by third-party PPM software.  In today's discussion, we look to engage both practitioner types.

As a baseline, our central theme will address the questions that revolve around key metrics and performance management.  Along the way, we will lightly review the core components of EVM, test its application in several scenarios, and see how it fits in a "brave new Agile world." And don't worry, our discussion will not be like a Monday afternoon math class.

Speaker:

Tyson Rydl is an accidental project manager whose passion for organized success fuels his 20 year IT career.  He has had the pleasure of leading technical teams in the educational, financial, and healthcare verticals.  When datacenter modernization projects became mundane, Tyson elected to broaden his skill set through construction management and delivering Agile instruction.

Today, Tyson works for the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab. His degrees include a MS in Information Technology Project Management and a BS in Computer Information Systems. Tyson's certifications include being a Project Management Professional, Prince2 Practitioner, Certified Scrum Master, and ITILv3.

When he is not in front of his laptop, he is an active participant in his local Toastmaster's chapter.
