Risk Management for Project Managers

This event/activity qualifies for 7.50 PDUs.

Presented by Dr. O. Derex Griffin, PgMP, PMP

Purpose: To give Project Managers an organized approach with managing Risk, blending theory with practical examples and case studies.

At the conclusion of this course:

    1. You will reinforce and apply what years of getting it wrong tells us about risk as a function of the details.
    2. You will revisit, internalize and apply the tenants of the total cost of inventory, in aggregate, and the controls to continuously improve.
    3. You will revisit, contemplate and appreciate the difference between resource authorization and resource availability.
    4. You will highlight and appreciate the ever dynamic constraint of stakeholder engagement, knowing them and serving them, and how the careful navigation thereof is crucial to your project’s survival.
    5. You will revisit, contemplate and appreciate the strengths and cultural limits of EVM.

Learning Targets

Risk, it’s always the details

Risk, nothing riskier than ignoring it

Risk, learning from the past (Case Studies)

The smallest omission yet the biggest impact

Returning at 9:10AM

Risk, never an absolute, always a trade-off

The right quantity; probably a function of costs

Your scope; choose your processes accordingly

Poor situational awareness will cost you

Returning at 10:30AM

Inventory, what it really cost

Don’t forget the cost of what’s enroute

What “out of stock” really cost you

Look for improvement not perfection

Tool up; improve now

Returning at 1:10PM

Revisiting EVM; only practical this time

Know your boss’s, boss’s priority

Not so fast; the numbers can’t be that good

Investigate, then investigate some more

Returning at 2:25PM

Stakeholders 101

Know the haters; know the congratulators

Two PMs; one knows her stakeholders; one is looking for a job!

Returning at 3:25PM

Supporting Stakeholders (Con’td)

Be ready for what you can’t anticipate

Build products they like; forget the others

Don’t persist to insist if they resist

Let’s stay in touch
