Veterans Day in the United States is a day to celebrate and honor those living and passed who served in the military during both times of war and peace. We take the opportunity to thank them for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the greater good. Many people around the world enjoy the freedoms that our veterans fought to provide. Even if you aren’t a United States citizen, or don’t celebrate Veterans Day, this is a wonderful opportunity to appreciate those who served to help give you the freedom to pursue your dreams.
Sometimes it can be easy to take freedoms we enjoy for granted and miss opportunities to honor those who have made it possible for us to create lives we love living with our families. We have the freedom to start businesses, decide to work for someone else or not work at all. We have the freedom to write books on any topic we want. We have the freedom to marry anyone we choose, raise our children in the way that we believe, feed our bodies any food we prefer and to dream any dream we wish.
Today, I invite you to think back to those who laid their lives on the line again and again, who made it possible for us to celebrate this day, Veterans Day, when we feel gratitude for all of those who have ever served in the United States for the freedoms we have today. As we feel gratitude, let me remind you that living from a state of gratitude today and every day is one of the keys to creating a happier, more fulfilling and abundant life.
On this Veterans Day, let us take a moment to recognize and honor the millions of men and women who have selflessly answered the call to serve in our nation's military. In the most violent of times, these brave men and women took an oath to protect this country and proudly wear a uniform. Our nation, founded on a promise of liberty, has been built upon a proud heritage of military service. Even within civil war pitting families against one another, there have always been the bravest among us dedicated to protecting our way of life and the liberties we hold dear. From the beaches of Normandy, to the deserts of Iraq, when our nation's security was under assault, it was the men and women of our military that answered the call to defend our great nation. These sacrifices, too often paid in blood, must not be forgotten.
On this day, let us commit to never forget the service and sacrifice made by those who have served, and continue to serve, to ensure our nation remains free. This Veterans Day has special meaning for me as I pray for the safety and safe return of those who are away from home. May God protect them and the thousands of other soldiers around the world. To all of those who served, thank you for the sacrifices.
