Abstract: Agile Essentials is a 1-day course that provides a comprehensive exploration into the essential, foundational concepts and practices of Agile. At the end of the course, students will have a strong working understanding of the Agile principles and common practices including Kanban and Scrum. Students participate in several hands-on exercises that reinforce the concepts presented in class.
At the end of this course, participants will:
• Understand the Agile Manifesto and its 12 Principles,
• Recognize the Lean principles of value and waste,
• Be able to build a basic Kanban board and manage flow, and
• Recognize the key components of Scrum roles, activities, and artifacts.
Both business and technology professionals who want to understand the transformational opportunities of Agile will benefit from this course, including:
• Project managers interested in learning Agile,
• Business users and managers involved in Agile projects,
• Technology managers interested in transforming their teams, and
• Technology team members interested in understanding Agile development methods.
Participants will receive a certificate of completion from Project Management Essentials and be able to claim 7 PDUs.
Instructor: The class is presented by Alan Zucker, founder of Project Management Essentials. Alan has over 25 years of experience leading projects and project management organizations in Fortune 100 companies. He led the agile transformation of a project office with over 170 project managers and has delivered large, strategic initiatives. In 2016, Alan founded Project Management Essentials to share his passion for and experience with project management. Project Management Essentials provides advisory consulting and training to clients across the United States. Clients include Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, the American Petroleum Institute, and several PMI Chapters.
Alan is a keynote speaker and thought leader. He is regularly featured in the industry press and as a podcast guest. He publishes monthly articles on project management, agile, and leadership. He is an adjunct faculty member at George Mason University and is a senior instructor with several national professional development organizations.
Alan has a master’s degree in economics from the University of Maryland and a master’s certificate in IT Project Management from George Washington University. He is a Project Management Professional (PMP) and Certified Agile Professional {PMI-ACP) through the Project Management Institute. He also holds multiple Agile certifications from Disciplined Agile, Scrum Alliance, and Scaled Agile.
