Abstract: The construction sector is the largest sector in the world, accounting for 13% of global GDP. However, the sector has been marred with low productivity with a recent survey of PMP holders in the sector showing that 7 out of 10 construction projects experience cost and time overruns. Another similar survey also showed that for every $1billion spent on construction projects, $127 is wasted, making it the most wasteful sector globally.
To address some of these issues and as the world’s leading project management association with over 50 years in the space, PMI has collaborated with leading construction industry experts and organizations to develop a new certification – PMI-CP. The aim of this new certification is to provide construction professionals with the relevant skills to improve efficiency and productivity, while also transforming the way we approach projects across the industry globally. Some of the organizations integral to developing this new certification include; Lean Construction Institute (LCI), Construction Industry Institute (CII), Saudi Aramco, Jacobs, DPR Construction, Larsen & Toubro, Amey and BHP amongst others.
The topics covered as part of PMI-CP are multidimensional and includes the unique principles relevant in delivering built environment projects, as well as the latest technologies making inroads into the sector. This new certification presents an opportunity for both new and experienced professionals to upskill and learn new techniques that can be immediately applied to projects across the world.
Presenter: Raphael Ani leads the global commercialization efforts of the new PMI construction certification. Prior to Joining PMI, he worked for Telefonica where he setup and led an innovation consortium that focused on digitizing existing and new infrastructure. The consortium comprised some of global construction and transportation companies, such as; Amey, Hyundai, Network Rail and Connected Places Catapult, to name a few.
