Military Networking
While in active military service, relationships and contacts are established primarily by geography, rank and role. There is “networking” in a different sense on the civilian side.
The importance of networking for anyone in the job market cannot be ignored, but there is a right way and a wrong way to network. The right way means that you are prepared and know your goals. The wrong way means you’re taking a random approach that doesn’t lead to lasting relationships and relies heavily on good luck.
Whether you are looking for a job, clients or more interesting projects, a network is a critical part of your professional toolkit. As a civilian in a professional career, using intentional networking strategies to gain introductions, leads, referrals, insights and relationships with stakeholders who you consider important is the key to success. Your intentional network is a key part of our professional development and circles of influence to grow your career.
A network of valuable contacts is critical in today’s competitive business climate. Your network serves not only as lead sources for your career but also as a sounding board, support system and source for current news. Your network is the “circle of influence” that will guide you through your career, if carefully planned and managed.
Whether you want to polish your resume, find veteran job fairs in your area or connect with employers looking to hire veterans, PMI Baltimore can help.
